Some of the definitions I got from web about MEDITATION:

continuous and profound contemplation or musing on a subject or series of subjects of a deep or abstruse nature; "the habit of meditation is the basis for all real knowledge"

Meditation usually refers to a state in which the body is consciously relaxed and the mind is allowed to become calm and focused.

A practice of deep concentration of the mind.

What is meditation to me?

  • There are times when my mind is jumbled with stray thoughts. At that time just to re-organize my thoughts, I take some time for myself. I sit in a comfortable posture, close my eyes, and then i just let my mind free. No, when I say I let my mind free, I don't mean that I order my mind not to think and that my mind becomes totally blank. After all, I am just a commoner.:-) Ok, so I set my mind free- I just let it think anything and everything. This process goes on for about some time. And gradually my mind clears up. There is just one thought in my mind now.
  • At times of stress and tension, I sit in Padmasana and chant "Om" several times. And then I contemplate on one of the forms of God. I try to become aware of each part my body. I become aware of my breathing. I start taking deep breaths. And when I am through with this process, I find my mind extraordinarily peaceful.
  • Meditation can happen anytime and anywhere. It can happen when you listen to one of these soothing, melodious songs. It can happen when you are amidst nature. It can happen when you are inside an ancient, historical temple.
  • Meditation can be spiritual or non-spiritual.
I enjoy meditation a lot. Everytime I do it, I come out feeling very refreshed. It is that chunk of time which I give only for myself. And believe me, it is worth it.:-)
